Sewerage and Drainage fees

The sewerage fees, according to the legislation, are based on the estimated value of the properties within the S.B.P boundaries at 1.1.1980 values, as they are designated by the Land Registry Office. The annual fees are announced in the Government Gazette and the Press. In addition, an effort is being made to post bills to all owners of immovable property within the boundaries of the Sewerage Board, once a year.

The sewerage fees has been decided following financial studies of the Board, based on the financial requirements of the whole project, and the maximum limits approved by the House of Representatives.

The sewerage fees vary according to the use, as shown in the table below.

The sewerage fees applicable for the year 2012 are as follows:

As of 2006, the tax rates for sewerage fees for the owners of immovable property within the boundaries of Phase B have been brought to par with the rates of sewerage fees for the owners of immovable property within the boundaries of Phase A, as a result of the commencement of the procedures for the construction works within Phase B. Therefore, since 2006, all owners of immovable property within the boundaries of the S.B.P. pay sewerage fees based on the same tax rate.

These fees are imposed for the repayment of the loans raised for the construction works. The loans mature in 20-25 years.

Usage Fee

A usage fee is imposed based on the consumption of water. For year 2012 the usage fee amounted to 42 cents per metric tone. This fee is imposed and collected by the relevant Water Authority.

Payment of Sewerage Fees

The annual fees are announced in the Government Gazette and the Press. For every immovable property, a separate billing statement is sent to the registered owner.

The billing statements can be paid at the offices of the Board or the Banks shown at the back of the billing statement, by the deadline announced in the press. Payments after the deadline announced are surcharged by 20% of the payable amount.

Prior to the transfer of an immovable property, the sewerage fees must be paid in full.

Not receiving a billing statement does not relieve the tax payer from the obligation for prompt payment.
